LOL Red Sox. Did they really just end the game with a pickoff at 1st? NICE!

Also: Go Ducks! DIAF, Tigers! I think I've finally become a naturalized Oregonian.

As we head into the season for college football, the NFL, baseball playoffs, the NHL, maybe-possibly-NBA pre-season, and God only knows what else, I vote we have a meme so I know who flies what colors and who would rather put a stick in their eye than watch sports! So...

For each sport you follow, mark which teams you care about! Put your #1-fan teams in bold, put bandwagon teams/teams you only follow in the playoffs in italics, and put teams you hate in strikethru! Underline hometown teams. Any team you're going see or have seen in person this season, mark with an asterisk*!

Major League Baseball: Favorite sport by far! :)
Teams: Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Anaheim Angels
Minor League: Pawtucket Red Sox

NFL: I became a bandwagon fan after I left New England, but I'm determined to be more into it this year!
Teams: New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers (I hate myself, but... *sigh*), San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks.

College Football: It's the only damn sports thing that Portlanders get excited about.
Teams: Oregon Ducks (Pac 12), Michigan State Spartans (Big 10)

National Hockey League: I'm mostly a check-the-scores fan of hockey, but go any-Canadian-team!
Teams: Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers

NBA: I actually really dislike watching basketball, but it's our only major league team. And still, no one cares as much about this as they care about college ball.
Teams: Portland Trail Blazers*, Boston Celtics, LA Lakers

I've been a Pats fan since early 80s...my family even had season tickets starting around 1983-84 (you know, when they sucked donkey balls - I think I've told you this but whatever. ;-)) and football games were good memories in a sea of sucky ones.

I think we've bonded over this before. I was too young to follow them in the 80s, but I did in the 90s for sure. The Brady Dynasty Years have really messed with my head because I was like "WTF!? We're GOOD now?? Are we the new Yankees!? HOW DO I COPE WITH THIS."

Wait a minute...I thought we bonded over raunchy Sparky sex. Oh! This was in ADDITION! Gotcha. ;-) Anyway, because I was a Pats fan from the 80s I feel fully justified now and can honestly say that I wasn't someone who became a Pats fan AFTER they started winning.

Sorry to see that the Ducks list their home opener to LSU.

Did they count that as a home game? It was at Cowboys Stadium, so neither team was at home. Weird, but I'm new to the wild world of caring about college football. :)

And yes, our friendship was primarily built on a foundation of Sheppard and Weir sneaking off to fuck around in closets!

Welcome to the nutzy world of college football! I've been into it as long as I have the NFL. Fottball, in any form, is just my favorite sport. Heck, I was watching a CFL game today. ;-)

I thought our friendship was built on mutual quirkiness and observance of all that is fandom, but I'll take Sparky screwing in the closet any time. ;-)

And about the Ducks...it was a game that counted. That's all that really matters at this point. I'm a Notre Dame fan. I also like either AZ team although I tend to favor Arizona State when they play University of Arizona only because I actually attended ASU.

Yeah, I know. :( On the upside, a lot of sports analysts seemed to be saying that "If the Tigers don't beat the Ducks this season, no one will," so I'm taking that to mean that the rest of our season could still be perfect. I'm too used to baseball where there are so many games and no such thing as a perfect season to get as upset about a loss as I probably should!

There's a big rivalry in Oregon between U of O Ducks and Oregon State Beavers, but as a non-native, I root for them both. Football's one of those sports where I really like watching good games with evenly matched teams but I'm not a #1 fan of anyone. :)

You should go to the game between them and wear a t-shirt has OSU on the front and University of Oregon on the back...wait, that may not be such a good idea. ;-)

I was all "Why is she hating on the Detroit Tigers? They're not even in the same division and they're the Tigers, who could hate the Tigers?" Then I got to the basketball part. ;)

I hate the Yankees, the Dodgers, the Astros, the Cardinals, the Phillies and the Braves. Clearly my antipathies are not American League-based. I basically root for the Mets and the Red Sox and then if none of the teams I hate are involved, whoever is the underdog. Like right now, I'm rooting for the Brewers to win the NL, and if the Sox can't get the AL, the Tigers. A Brewers/Tigers series could be fun. Lord knows Wisconsin and Michigan could use something positive this year. :\

Aww, it's difficult to hate those Tigers. I was just hating on the LSU Tigers that ended up thumping my O-Ducks. :(

I do like the Brewers. I like the Cardinals because I like their announcers and their fans - I appreciate fans who are really knowledgeable about the sport, and they were also really quite nice about the Red Sox beating them in the curse-breaking 2004 World Series. The Astros have quite honestly never even pinged on my radar one way or the other - I'm surprised anyone cares about them at all, haha.

The Astros played the Mets in the 1986 playoffs. Hence, hatred. Also they had a player named Jose Cruz in the 1980s who I couldn't stand. (I do that sometimes, a particular player puts me off a team. Like Von Hayes on the Phillies. Though I hated the Yankees long before A-Rod. ;)

I really can't stand Derek Jeter, largely because he's an amazing ballplayer. So it's like respect-hatred in that case.

A-Rod is just a dick! Never forgiven for dicking over the Red Sox, and then never forgiven for continuing to be an ass every single day, omfg.

I live in fear for the day that they get a retired Yankee on Dancing With the Stars, because WHAT IF I DON'T HATE HIM. I worry about these things.
