Idea!

I've been wanting to get back into my Star Trek theme marathons because those are fun as heck, but what if - WHAT IF! - I did a Star-Trek-Lit marathon and read books referenced on the shows?

(I mean the ones that actually exist, not the Kir'Shara or what-have-you.)

I'm cheating because I'm already reading Sherlock Holmes.

Plus excuse to start over watching from the beginning of everything to make sure I don't miss a reference.

EDIT: Actually I just really need some kind of epic potentially bloggable reading project that isn't Twilight. Ever since 50 Shades of Gray came around and my coworkers are pushing it at me big-time, Twilight suddenly seems like a TOTALLY REASONABLE ALTERNATIVE. (Someone argued "You might hate it so much you love it!" and that was a really good argument.)

EDIT 2: I just like to start a lot of epic projects, okay? It's a hobby.

I wrote this as crackfic for the creator of this lovely graphic (below cut), and now people are reblogging it on tumblr so I guess it is worth sharing? IDK! Basically, Riker & Tasha are bros.

You didn't used to be a man who needed to pad his score. )

Title: "Sense Memory"
Category: Riker/Ro, post-ep, short ficlet
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: "Conundrum"
Summary: It's awkward.

It wasn't the worst way to spend an existential crisis. )

... IDK, sometimes these things happen? A snippet of a sequel to Return Flight, but since it's a flashback, nothing in there is really relevant.

He had priorities. )

Please help choose my next Little Red Trekathon Adventure!

[livejournal.com profile] aj requested BABIES AND/OR KIDS using really large font, so that's kind of the front-runner, but then [livejournal.com profile] ljs_lj suggested "Vulcans Behaving Badly" and I really need to know what you think is in most desperate need of taking up my free time. The arguments are thus:

VERY IMPORTANT POLL! )

If you tried to take this poll a few minutes ago and were denied, SORRY. It needed editing!

There is NO SUCH THING as too much time on your hands.

In related VERY IMPORTANT INQUIRIES: what should my next Star Trek theme marathon be!?
mylittleredgirl: (Default)
*unless you are B'Elanna that one time with the Nazis.

Two things happened to me on my trip to Fred Meyer:

1) I lost my medical benefits flex card.

2) I saw How William Shatner Changed the World, Starring William Shatner, Based on the Book by William Shatner or: the most Shatner you can get for $12.99. (Then I didn't buy it, because it's also the most Shatner I can get for $2.99 on Amazon.)

Since I'm already mourning my freedom to purchase prescription medications with pre-tax funds and my standing in the William Shatner Fan Club by not immediately purchasing and watching that movie, I think it's time to play a final dirge for the holodeckathalon!

I'm not going to let you turn this into an argument about holographic rights! )

This Star Trek video MIGHT ACTUALLY be better than "Tik Tok." I'm just warning you. IT'S THAT AWESOME.

Next marathon after the holodeckathalon: time travel? IT MIGHT BE A SIGN.

ETA: What episode is the clip at 2:30!? It's the Enterprise-D bridge, and I never thought anything from TNG would stump me. Trekkie knowledge fail!

So I was going back and tagging these posts (because I broke down and realized this minimarathon isn't so mini and needs its own tag) and realized that I FORGOT to mention the epic costuming crackfest that is "Qpid." So, that's here, along with a few more seasons of Voyager, because they spend just way too much time in the holodeck on that ship.

With the safeties off-line, it's as good as the real thing. )

For how big a role holosuites play in the culture on DS9, there are surprisingly few holodeck episodes. To the best of our knowledge, no one ever got stuck in the Alamo program while Santa Ana attempted to take over the station (in fact, we never see the Alamo, or the Battle of Britain, or any number of other programs that are constantly discussed).

So, on to the remaining five holodeck episodes of Deep Space Nine!

I don't see how hiding out in one of Julian's adolescent holosuite programs is a good sign. )

Next up: the holodeck episodes of Voyager. That seems like it might take a while! Did that crew do anything except hang out on the holodeck??

I am still going on my holodeck marathon, though I haven't been blogging it due to vacations and laziness. To recap: (spoilers! images! etc!)

Nana Visitor has a cooking show on youtube.

If you happen to be in the Magic Picture Box camp with me who believes that TV is this magical thing that comes to you fully formed, you should prepare yourself for some cognitive dissonance, because if there's one thing you really never imagined Major Kira doing, it was probably cooking gourmet food with interludes of interpretive dance.

YOU'RE WELCOME.

Since we had a filibuster-proof majority on the Very Important Poll, it was decided that I should include "alien holodeck-like crack" in my Holodeck Crack Marathon!

This might have actually been a terrible idea.

Shore Leave, Once Upon a Planet, and The Royale [image/gif heavy] )
mylittleredgirl: (Default)
Your opinion is urgently needed before I can proceed on my Holodeck Crack Marathon!

I went to pop in "The Royale" and realized that it's not actually a stuck-in-the-malfunctioning-holodeck episode, because they're stuck in some sort of alien holodeck-like dealio. And this is disappointing! There are a few others like this that I can think of ("Qpid" and "Future Imperfect" most notably, maybe DS9's "Move Along Home" and Classic Trek's "Shore Leave"). So please decide for me, internets: do I maintain the purity of the holodeck crack marathon and shuffle these episodes to a potential non-holodeck crack marathon later on, or do we include Holodeck Crack By Any Other Name?

"Except keep the holodecks working right." (Worf & O'Brien, DS9's "Way of the Warrior")

OK! I have lots of exciting things that need doing: [livejournal.com profile] prettylightsfic, about a zillion Christmas presents, digging out my craft space so I have a place to put my sewing machine and clear floor space to cut fabric and whatnot, fixing my vacuum cleaner so I can clean the cleared floor space for fabric-cutting, etc. I also need to clean out my fridge because there are scary old things in there. I clearly need entertainment for this. I had so much fun with my Ensign Ro marathon last week, I think I'll have another themed marathon. And since I know you hang on my every tv-watching decision, I will share it with you! ;)

I call it Das Boy's worst nightmare (he haaaaates this trope), or: The Great Holodeck Adventure Marathon.

Limiting it to only holodeck malfunction episodes would rule out awesome crack like "Fair Haven" and "Hollow Pursuits", but just having a holodeck scene or two would be... like half the episodes in existence, at least. And if we start getting into "but what is a holodeck, really?" then I'd have to rewatch the animated series Shore Leave sequel again, and I already put myself through that once this year. SO. It's decided. Standard holodeck romp fare.

We start in TNG season 1 with the episode I have seen more often than any other Star Trek ever episode: "The Big Goodbye."

Do you love holodeck episodes? Hate them with the burning hellfires of a thousand suns? What's your favorite? Tell meeeeee!
