V-Day, and Hallmark Poets Anonymous!
Mwah ha ha, you all are totally allowed to defriend me after you read this, as I was totally SHUNNED by most people at work yesterday for saying so, but I LIKE VALENTINE'S DAY.
Especially as a single person, because that way there's no obligation to do or fret about anything. I don't actually feel at all oppressed by Valentine's Day. It is sad that all of my local friends are either 1) with someone, and therefore busy, or 2) DEADLY MOROSE, and therefore busy, and so I have no one to play with today, but that's okay. EVERYTHING has become sappy romance, and you know me, I heart sappy romance and kitschy (sp? I swear there's a z in that somewhere oh, it's an s, according to
wiliqueen) flowers and hearts and dorky love songs on the radio and TERRIBLE romantic movies on television.
Of course, with the exception of that one year my watch tried to kill me (seriously. my watch had a text function along with the alarm and was sending me death threats -- some kind of swim team prank or something), nothing bad has ever happened to me on V-day, so, yes. It's not yet a doomful anniversary.
That said, "Happy V-Day To Everyone And SAPPY SAPPY Hearts And Flowers For All!" SO THERE.

AND NOW, for the REEEEEEALLY important holiday that falls on February 14th and why I *really* love this day...
Hallmark Poets Anonymous
This FINE King House tradition, credited to
froggoddess, declares that we friends gather together around the fireplace to feast on heart-shaped goodies and admire the tacky decorations... or, well, gather together ON THE INTARWEB and feast on comments, and share our WORST HIGH SCHOOL LOVE POETRY.
The angstiest shmaltz. The most embarrassing I-love-him-for-the-way -we-danced-in-the-GYM. The most profound declarations of TRUE LOVE FOREVER FOUND IN HOMEROOM.
(Sadly, I think the internet may not be the best venue for this, because we are inundated with bad love poetry all the time AND because they lose some of the tackiness without the DRAMATIC READINGS, but oh well. It's the thought that counts. And it's the one day of the year when really bad fanfic poetry is in season!)
I am remarkably lame in reporting this to you for two reasons: 1) it's actually VALENTINE'S DAY itself by the time I mention it, and how many of us remember by heart our angsty high school love poetry? and 2) I CAN'T REMEMBER THE WORDS TO "BLACK", which is the quintessential angsty love poem (not penned by anyone we actually know, ALAS) recited at every HPA. EDIT:
noradannan remembered!!
Black.
Black.
Black as my soul.
Black as the Metallica T-shirt he wore.
He didn't invite me to the prom.
He didn't invite me to the prom.
Dance.
I shall dance on his grave.
And I shall wear
Black.

share our WORST HIGH SCHOOL LOVE POETRY
Oh God...my brain has thankfully erased the lame-as-lame-can-be poetry I wrote back in high school. I will confess to writing them, but I'd have to do some digging (literally - through piles of HS papers I never tossed) to find them.
And I don't know if this just made the rounds at my high school, but does anyone else remember an angsty poem called "Class Ring"? (I think that was the title.) It was about some guy taking back his class ring and you think he and the girl are breaking up, but it turns out she's dead?
Is it sad that's the only poem I remember from high school? Now I'll probably have to spend part of my day searching for the thing on Google. Ugh.

I KNEW we would get along :)
AND YES! More Shep/Weir fic!! *giddies*
You know, I think I *do* remember that Class Ring poem...

Class Ring
--Author Unknown
Close by the door, he passed to stand
As he took the class ring off her hand
All who were watching didn't dare to speak
As a silent tear ran down his cheek
All through his mind, memories ran
Of the times they laughed and walked hand in hand
But now her eyes looked very cold
He'd never have her again, never to hold
All were silent as he bent down near
To whisper "I love you" in her ear
Touching her face, he started to cry
He put on his class ring and wanted to die
And just as the wind began to blow
They lowered her casket into the snow

Or something like that. Hee.
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

I must go find my middle school poetry now... since I typed it ALL UP and it's lying around on a CD-R somewhere. *shame* :p

Actually, I am disliking Valentines this year, because it's looking exceedingly likely that for the entire rest of my life, I will never have sex with something that isn't battery-operated (the USB powered one I bought last week not withstanding) ever again. Hmph.
And I'd post my crappy high school poetry, but uh, they're oh-so-slightly embarrassing. (especially since I only graduated high school um not even a whole year ago. Meep. I am ickle and small)

USB powered!?? *is curious and afraid* Is this one of those you hook up to an X-box? (I'm not kidding -- there's totally a game-controlled vibrator... being marketed under the idea that this way the girlfriend will let her boyfriend play as much video games as he wants, and she will get off on it, and the man will feel Extra Super Powerful because him blowing up video game baddies makes his girlfriend scream for God.)
And crappy high school poetry is SO MUCH LESS SHAMEFUL when shared! Because we are sharing it ironically. But perhaps would be easier to wait and share it next year :)

Re: MEME!!!!!!
Although now you make me want to go trolling through bad fanfic archives for Marcus/Ivanova poetry, and that is just CRUEL AND UNUSUAL.
I am really sad that I was unable to locate that website of "internet love" related bad high school poetry, OMG... It scrolled my heart a road DIRECTLY TO YOU!
Re: MEME!!!!!!

by Mas-ash
Was it the words that made me think about him all night
or was it the smile that he brought to my face when I saw the E- Mail
message that seem to shine so bright.
Yes I feel so confused, How could it be?
He stole my Heart away with the stroke of his computer keys.
We chat, we talk its just not the same, there should be no reason I get so
excited when I see his chat name.
We are in a private room, designed for two, sometimes I think they
designed one especially for me and you.
We are chatting for hours when I realize, oops, I'm on the computer, I was
lost there for a while, but His words they really make me smile.
Communications is the key to unlock my heart,
It's funny the computer has enable to get thus far.
Cyber space is strange and that is true,
But guess what - It Scrolled My Heart a Road Directly to you.
Re: MEME!!!!!!
*claps gleeefully*
I actually like V-Day as well, ESPECIALLY since all the yummy chocolate is on sale the few days following *evil, sinful grin*
To be honest
