Medie: NICE MEME, dude.
Name three fics you think I will never, ever, ever write. In return (and if inspired), I will attempt to write a snippet of one of them.

1. That story where Diane drags Jake to one of her college friend's/cousin's wedding and they end up sitting on a gazebo/porch drinking champagne and being stupid cute during/after the reception.
2. Project!Voyager where Captain Katie successfully sits out a minor crisis and (badly) knits a sweater to distract herself during it.
3. That Atlantis story where Teyla and Elizabeth end up doing negotiations in a day spa and the guys have to sit in the girly, girly lobby and stare at beauty magazines or something similar. And the girls end up getting them all a lifetime supply of chocolate in return for like.. vibrators or something.

OMG. I totally posted this meme expecting stories that I would never write due to them being about Shep & McKay declaring their love through a karaoke competition or something, and you correctly pointed out that stories I've previously agreed to will probably never be written because I am LAZY. *laughs again* NICE.
SUCH LOVE FOR YOU! I will write you a snippet. *thinks*
snippet #1: (cheating, because I already wrote part of that fic) :-P
"Diane-" Fran was saying, and her tone sounded dangerously like she was about to launch into something resembling a pep talk.
Diane silenced her with a glare, and for good measure, asked, "Have you compiled the data from the infrared spectral testing yet?"
She knew Fran hadn't done that yet -- it was a low priority, so she didn't even particularly care that Fran hadn't done that yet -- but after sixteen phone calls from her mother in the past hour and a half, Diane was feeling the need to put someone else on the defensive for a while.
Not brave enough to continue bothering her, Fran mumbled something about working on it and slunk away to the other side of the lab.
Diane's cell phone rang. She stabbed a finger at the ignore button and turned back to her computer, studiously avoiding her personal email, knowing her mother was probably waging an all-out war on that front, too. She was at work. She didn't need to feel guilty about this.
She also didn't need to feel guilty about the source of all the familial unrest, either. Because she was working. She was always working, and if her cousin wanted to get married on two weeks' notice and didn't have the basic human decency to elope, that certainly wasn't Diane's problem.
She might, might have even considered attending without a fuss if it wasn't in Maine in the absolute dead of winter, if it wasn't literally four days away, and if the second words out of her mother's mouth (after "I can't believe your cousin Rachel! This is so like her! She's going to be the death of your Aunt Linda...") weren't: There are going to be lots of eligible men there, dear.
Diane really didn't have time for eligible men. In fact, she was on complete strike from eligible anythings, considering the last time she'd gone out on anything like an Official Date she'd ended up about five seconds from a think tank in the former Eastern Bloc.
She had her job -- something that had exploded into an all-consuming monstrosity of her time, energy and emotions in the past eight months, since she'd gone from an overeducated and underappreciated lab gofer for Dr. Gage to the head researcher of a cutting-edge nanotechnology project with a real live human subject.
So, yes, she had her work. She had the NSA, and the unexpected political infighting inside the NSA that had her waking up in the middle of the night with the nearly irrepressible urge to pick up the phone and call Jake to make sure he hadn't been whisked off to some secret underground lab under the purview of Executive Director Warner. She had nanites to monitor all the time, including weekends, just in case.
She had Jake.
She didn't need her mother's guilt-trips or her father's quiet worry that she wasn't 'fulfilled' or her cousin Rachel's shining example, and she certainly didn't need an entire, uninterrupted weekend of those things.
End of story. Finito.
She still felt guilty.

adoration for Jakedesire to be the best doctor Jake could get! <3 <3 <3 So cute. Soo cute!!!(I still want Katie knitting that sweater and SWEARING everytime an alarm goes off and kind of neurotically making sure her combadge is with her at ALL TIMES and vaguely stalking Tuvok, but then going "No. SWEATER." And then giving up and doing some completely OCD thing in engineering until Joe wants to dump her out an airlock, but hides behind B'Elanna instead.)

I LOVE THEM SO.

*laughs* I really don't know why there aren't a beeellion babies on Voyager. I can't believe that half the crew hasn't hooked up by now, considering how into pairing off everybody seemed to be in the first season...

Knits.
Kathryn isn't someone who sits still well. She bounces around the bridge during all her shifts, ducking in and out of her ready room, even punching him in the arm occasionally for attention (ostensibly, for "a status report") on days when absolutely nothing has exploded.
It isn't just on Voyager. On their unintended holiday on New Earth he'd watch her dash back and forth from insect traps to gardens to research equipment, completing eight separate tasks before he was fully done contemplating the sunrise.
He teases her, says it's the coffee. She threatens to stop drinking it -- an empty threat, to be sure -- "See how much you like me then."
So, after all of that, Chakotay is entirely surprised to find her in the mess hall with a pair of knitting needles in her hand and some sort of curved metal needle -- his mother was an afficionado of all sorts of needlecrafts, but he never bothered to learn the names of her specific equipment -- tucked in her uniform collar.
He's almost afraid to interrupt, like Calmly Knitting Kathryn is a mirage that will disappear if he makes too much noise.
She spots him anyway. She always does. "Commander," she greets him.
"Is there some news I should be aware of?" he asks, already smiling, nodding toward the pile of knit fabric in her lap.
Kathryn puts her needles down in an apparent tangle and stares at him, confused. "I don't follow."
"Is it Ensign Tavarez?"
"Commander?"
"Are you going to tell me who it is?" Someone must be pregnant -- after all, the only other time he saw her with anything knit was when she presented a baby blankie to Samantha Wildman, but he'd assumed until now that she'd replicated it. They had plenty of time to kill on New Earth, and he never once saw her with yarn and needles.
"Chakotay?" she says, like she thinks he's crazy.
He supposes, considering they've been waiting out a magnetic storm inside an asteroid cavern for the past three days, that he has the time to play twenty questions.
"What are you knitting, Kathryn?"
She makes a face. "A sweater. Sort of." She holds the tangle of yarn toward him and smiles ruefully.
He's afraid to touch it, for fear of tangling it further. "Can I ask what possessed you?" Besides not liking sedentary passtimes, she really hates doing things badly.
"My grandmother, actually." Kathryn shakes her head. "She taught me when I was eight."
"You sat still long enough to learn this?"
"I didn't learn it well." She smirks, then leans over the armrest of the couch toward him to confide, "I overheard her telling my mother that she didn't think I'd have the knack for it."
Chakotay laughs. "I've never known you to shrink from a challenge."
"She said it's good to pass the time. I started it four years ago and forgot about it. I think it's beyond repair."
There really isn't anything else to do, so Chakotay sits next to her. He doesn't realize how exhausted he is until he's down -- they've been in gray mode with nothing to do, just waiting, but that doesn't mean he's managed to sleep.
"I'm sure someone on board knows how. They could give you some pointers."
Kathryn raises an eyebrow.
That's something else she hates -- asking for help. She's getting better about that one, though. He'd tell her how proud he is of her, but she still has the power to demote him.
"It's hardly the highest and best use of my time."

It's a low blow, but unfortunately, she doesn't bite.
"I'm not eight years old anymore, Commander."
He shrugs. She always sees right through him, but it's worth a try anyway.
"I think you should keep going," he says. "It's not like we lack for time out here. It's nice to see you doing something that isn't the highest and best use of your time for a change."
She doesn't answer, and he's okay with that. They do a lot of sitting quietly together. Usually they're working, but when they're not, he likes it best.
After a few minutes of staring out at the dark, jagged asteroid interior, lit eerily in places by light from Voyager's windows and deflector, he leans over her shoulder and prompts, "Show me."
She shakes her head at how she's indulging him. Her stitches are uneven, lacking the rhythmic precision of his mother's practiced hands. Chakotay has vague memories of infancy, lying in his mother's lap while wooden needles clicked overhead.
"This can't be very interesting to watch," Kathryn says, nudging him with her shoulder.
He smiles. "Actually, it is."

2. The one where SG-1 goes to a planet populated by a society of anthropomorphic creatures, rather like 'Animal Farm'.
3. A Dan/Jan post-heroes where they travel to an AU and Janet is there and that world needs help - you could give it the title 'Second Chances'. Oh, wait a second... :p

Basically, there's a geeky computer tech who works for the national security agency as an IT guy... and there's a freak lab accident which gives him all these nanite-induced superpowerz. Basically. So they train him as a super-spy, but he's still a geek. And the scientist in charge of him is a sweet geeky girl who is madly in love with him, and it's just FULL OF AWESOME.
If you are interested in a new limited fandom, episodes could be ahemed in your general direction.
