... but I hear violins

I will now avoid talking about my actual life and pressing thoughts by spamming you with the usual Little Red ridiculousness.
High on my list of daily gleee is that
relevance hooked me up with more Conjure One last night (since
pellmelody got me hooked). I'm now listening to Center of the Sun rather endlessly, and want the lyrics on icons and stuff (because I am incapable of just kindasorta liking something without TOTAL TEMPORARY OBSESSION). (yousendit.com link, so download, pirate, listen, make me icons, yay)

In other Very Important News, I have found the Best. Fic. Ever. I never really understood that thing people say about "OMG, this story is so good it makes me never want to write anything again!" But this is that story for me. I'm also blaming it for making it now totally impossible for me to run away from this show.
New Battlestar Galactica, "Five Deaths (Laura Roslin)" by Rheanna, a fic in five parts: One Two Three Four Five

The OTHER thing that's making it impossible for me to run away from this frakking [geekiness intentional] show is that TELEVISION WITHOUT PITY PICKED UP GALACTICA. Oh. Thank God. I can now watch this show with the requisite amount of snark to keep me from sinking into a dark, dark pit of despair. (geekflashback: "It was a time of dark, dark despair." "You said that." <-- 5 points to anyone who can tell me where *that*'s from)

5 good things about today minus the 3 good things listed above:
4.
jennylouise123 sent me the "Sheppard/Weir: Saving the Galaxy and Looking Good Doing It" badge in the mail! YAY!! Even more entertaining was explaining it to my mother. Even more entertaining was having her explain it to my father. "Even the actors thought it was funny, isn't that right, Sachi? And look -- the emphasis on doing it makes it funny!"
5.
w0lfstar emailed me right at a moment of DARK DARK DESPAIR and we planned for me to go stay with her for a long weekend soon! And watch Atlantis. And play with her shiny new mixer for manic midnight baking. YAY!!! Kappa gleeee party!
3 things I did well:
1. Did yoga and meditation practice.
2. Ate dinner (yes, it was that sort of day. Shush. It's an accomplishment.)
3. Left the house and braved wintryicydeath on the roads to get to Kripalu for dinner.
High on my list of daily gleee is that

Violins? In the center of the sun?
Date: 2005-01-19 08:06 pm (UTC)Have you listened to any Balligomingo? There are some similarities, and it's good music.
when I close my eyes
Date: 2005-01-19 08:08 pm (UTC)The more I listen to "Center of the Sun", the more it disturbs me that I am totally loving a song about child prostitution. Meep. (It is... right? Please tell me I didn't just pluck that horrible image out of my own head). The actual bit about being in the center of the sun is somehow *less* confusing, at this early stage of listening, but possibly because I hear nonsensical stuff exactly like that in yoga classes all the time.
I don't think I've ever heard of Balligomingo... or, at least, not known it was them if I heard it around the hall.
Re: when I close my eyes
Date: 2005-01-19 08:23 pm (UTC)From "Charlie":
Oh, Charlie, a boy and his toys
I see you lying stiff and cold
On the bedroom floor
Kiss me darling with those pale lips once more
Hands could never comfort you
Not so well as steel could do
From "Ruby Lane":
Welcome down to Ruby Lane
Take your pick sir
We're all the same
The sky is my one direction
The earth is my bed
and later in the song:
And if you see my brother
You'll know cause he's wearing no shoes
Won't you be so good man
As to throw him some food
And I love, love, love this one:
"You Did It All Before"
Your pocket of dreams
Has split at the seams
I don't need to argue any more
You're left exposed
Wearing yesterday's clothes
Now you've undone the
stitches we've sewn.
Amazing album. Love them all (well, except for the endless "The Alien Song"). Highly recommend it.

Date: 2005-01-20 10:43 am (UTC)...tis good stuff. Pretty sure amazon has clips you can listen to.
I bought it in the store because they were playing it and I had to have it. They only had CD, and at the time, I didn't have a CD player.
But I bought it anyway, cos the one song? Just that good. And I certainly don't regret it. *luffs*

I'm uploading some Balligomingo for you now.
no! no child abuse at all!

Date: 2005-01-20 10:16 am (UTC)And... I'm really sorry? I'm trying not to get too hooked, either. It messes my head up to have more than one pairing kicking around and Sheppard and Weir are way fluffier and less full of DARK DARK DESPAIR :)
However, if I ever make a Battlestar Galactica community, I think dark_dark_despair is really the way to go. :)

Date: 2005-01-20 10:37 am (UTC)And it's both new AND old, kinda, what with the... okay, pretty much just the fact that the ship is called the Battlestar Galactica and the enemies are called the Cylons. So, yes. New!

Date: 2005-01-20 10:40 am (UTC)And yay that you watch it!! It's definitely diverting, and I cling to TWoP in the hopes that it will make it less fantastically depressing for me (well, TWoP has a way of making things seem depressing in quality if now in subject. But that's easier to sleep on.)

Date: 2005-01-20 09:09 am (UTC)Great...like I needed another distraction during the day. I can't say I'm in love with the new version of BSG, but there is so much snark potential that I will probably now never miss an ep. Thank you TiVO and TWoP.
At least now I do not have the need to snark in my journals. Cuz really, I think that the producers of that show have one of these goals in mind: 1) have a large percentage of their viewing audience jump off the nearest bridge and/or 2) give themselves sever concussions from smacking it against the nearest hard wall, table, etc.

Date: 2005-01-20 10:42 am (UTC)Oh no! It will take away from ficwriting and OTHER ways in which you keep from working!

See, I was thrown by the stonewalling of snark that the show kinda did by making it impossibly depressing with, like, dead innocent children and shit. And then, like a
shining beacon in spacevoice in the wildernesser... I'm giving up on finding a non-Babylon-5-ripoff-metaphor, anyway, there was TWoP.At least now I do not have the need to snark in my journals.
You should anyway :) At least now the professionals are on the job, though!
