Please imagine that I remembered before I just checked the birthday list and I wrote you lots of delightful TNG fanfic and mini!otp and other things that you love! For you deserve the mostest wonderfulness ever!
*distracts you with shiny icon*
Oooh! I have read through my mini!otp fics that I am writing and have found a snippet that's not entirely depressing and is suitable for birthday snippetage! *smooches you* So here, in its unedited glory, is a scene from a fic that may someday exist in a complete sort of way:
His ship exploded within a matter of seconds.
"Oh, come on!"
Sam laughed in spite of herself at his exaggerated distress. "It's only a game," she reminded him.
Jack leaned his head over the back of the couch, staring up at the ceiling. "I know. I guess I shouldn't expect it to handle like the X-302."
"No Goa'uld technology."
"Hey, Carter..." It was that voice, that particular pleading she'd recognize anywhere, even from a fifteen-year-old.
"No, sir, I can't fix your video game."
He glared at her, but she knew from the smirk that he was only kidding. "You mean you don't want to."
She smiled sweetly. "It might cut into my studies. We do have that American History test next Monday."
"Carter, we were there. We don't need to study."
"Hey, speak for yourself. I was in diapers at the time."
"Don't remind me."
She swatted his shoulder with the physics journal. "Because you're just so worried about getting old before your time."
His expression sobered, but he didn't look upset. Her heart started to beat faster and she felt warm all over, the way she used to after hard missions when he'd pat her on the shoulder and tell her she done good. These were the moments when she didn't hate this, when this new life felt -- almost -- like it could someday be normal. Like they weren't being punished for some cosmic sin, weren't the byproducts of some Asgard joke, were just two people living very, very strange lives.
Like they would eventually be okay.
She liked that feeling.
Jack nudged the controller toward her. When she pretended not to notice, he nudged it again.
"All right. I'll try. But I'm not promising anything."
He leaned back and tossed a piece of popcorn in his mouth. "You can do it, Carter. I have faith."

Date: 2007-09-19 09:28 pm (UTC)I totally want a beta for the full piece! You may have read some of it, actually, because it was my very first mini!otp fic that I abandoned in favor of happy fluffy things. I have all kinds of post-traumatic-cloning mini!OTP fics kicking around my computer, but I'd like to finish that one someday... (and Second Chances... maybe I'll finish that for your NEXT birthday!)
