first drabble ever!

I hereby eat everything I've ever said about never writing a drabble. My new word processor counts words as I go, so I pretty much had to :)

[livejournal.com profile] elly427, consider it an angst down payment.

As always, let me know what you think!

TITLE: "Two Words"
RATING: PG
CATEGORY: drabble, Sam/Jack, future, angst, romance
SPOILERS: "Heroes," "In the Line of Duty"
LOVE TO: [livejournal.com profile] besyd beta'd, and rules.

SUMMARY: One in five pregnancies ends in miscarriage.

In two words it was over.

"I'm sorry."

The familiar beeps and whirrs of the infirmary faded in and out with the sedative she'd been given. Words barely reached her, hushed and impersonal through the curtain. 'Gate travel. Naquadah. Protein marker.

Jolinar. Sam longed bitterly for Janet, for a doctor who got it.

They were just getting used to the idea.

A man parted the curtain, and her heart choked. He didn't ask.

He already knew.

"I'm sorry," she whispered, like it was her fault.

In two steps Jack reached her, and held her like he would never let go.

...how to make your reader cry in 30 seconds or less.

Loved it, sweetie. I have the highest respect for drabble writers--the ability to convey so much with so few words is a true art--and you clearly have the gift!

And while sad, it still has them together in the end, so I can deal :)

I do too! Especially after writing one!!!

And... I really can't bear to break them up. Never going to happen. Ever. *gets girlie and squeals about the forever-and-everness of Sam and Jack*

And Gena! Where have you been hiding, dude? And did you see that Amanda made a Jacob-squeee icon?
